Delegate Boggs

Legislature to Hold Community Services Block Grant Public Hearing

CHARLESTON – On the first day of the 2014 regular legislative session, the House of Delegates and Senate Finance committees will hold a public hearing on the proposed use of federal block grant funding for community development and services, including workforce investment, various health services and child care.

“This is a federally required hearing, but one that both legislators and members of the public find very informative,” House Finance Chairman Brent Boggs said. “This federal funding helps state agencies provide services that are critical to the well being of West Virginia children and low-income individuals seeking to improve their circumstances, as well as to the general quality of life in West Virginia communities.”

The hearing will take place at 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 8, in the House Finance Committee room (460 M). Members of the public are welcome to attend, and audio of the meeting will be streamed via the Legislature’s live page, http://www.legis.state.wv.us/live.cfm.

State representatives will speak regarding the following grants:

Preventative Health and Health Services

Community Mental Health Services

Maternal and Child Health

Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment

Child Care and Development

Energy Assistance

Social Services

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families

Workforce Investment

Community Development

Juvenile Accountability Incentive
