Manchin Pleased to Lead House Judiciary Committee

FAIRMONT – Marion County Delegate Tim Manchin said he is eager to move into his new role as Chairman of the powerful House Judiciary Committee, an appointment which Speaker Tim Miley announced Thursday.

“Having worked side by side with Delegate Manchin on the Judiciary Committee, I greatly value his abilities and service,” Speaker Miley said. “He has a great legal mind that is matched by an outstanding work ethic and I have tremendous confidence that the Judiciary Committee under his leadership will be extremely productive and successful.”

Delegate Manchin served as Vice Chairman of the Judiciary Committee during the 2013 regular legislative session.

"Speaker Miley and I have worked together in the Legislature as friends and colleagues for ten years. I was proud to serve as his vice chairman on the Judiciary Committee and I am excited because I know the great job he will do in leading our Legislature in the future." Manchin said. "I am honored at the trust and confidence he has bestowed upon me to serve as chairman of the Judiciary Committee – the most sought after position for any lawyer in the Legislature is to be named chairman of the judiciary committee by the Speaker."

The House Judiciary Committee is tasked with reviewing and recommending almost every major piece of legislation. On serving in this new capacity, Manchin stated that, "As with every position I have held in the past, I will work tirelessly to serve the people of West Virginia and my fellow legislators."

Manchin was first appointed to the West Virginia House of Delegates in 2003 after the passing of his uncle A. James Manchin.

Prior to receiving this appointment, Manchin was the vice-chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, served on the House Finance Committee, was the chairman of the House Political Subdivisions Committee, and recently was chairman of the Select Committee charged with developing major legislation for Marcellus Shale regulations.

In addition to serving in the Legislature, Manchin is the managing member of the Manchin Injury Law Group located in Fairmont, West Virginia.
