Select Committee on Children and Poverty Meeting in Logan County

Charleston, WV - West Virginia Senate Majority Leader and Chairman of the Select Committee on Children and Poverty John Unger, (D-Berkeley), announced that the committee will hold a public meeting at 7 p.m. on July 23rd at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, Building A, Room 111, 2900 Dempsey Branch Road, Mount Gay, WV.

“I'm pleased the Senate Select Committee on Children and Poverty is coming to the 7th District. As a member we try to look at root causes of societal issues that stem from poverty including the effects on education, economic development and the health of the population. Our area is a high impact population with the decline in the coal industry,” said Senator Ron Stollings, (D-Boone), member of the Senate Select Committee, “I hope many people come to the meeting and offer any stories or solutions specifically with regard to the coal fields.”

The 7th Senatorial District consists of Boone, Lincoln, and Logan Counties, as well as part of Mingo and Wayne Counties.

“Holding these meetings throughout the state really adds to the legislative process, and I believe the meeting here will benefit the committee,” said Senator Art Kirkendoll, (D-Logan), “The meeting will provide an opportunity for the legislators to hear from our community ideas to make the entire state a healthier and safer place for our families and children struggling with poverty.”

The public is invited and encouraged to attend and participate.
