Unger Pleased with Signing of WV Feed to Achieve Act

Charleston, WV - Senate Majority Leader John Unger(D - Berkeley) commended Governor Earl Ray Tomblin today for signing into law the West Virginia Feed to Achieve Act.

The legislation brings together the State Board of Education, State Department of Agriculture and State Department of Health and Human Resources in order to increase student participation in nutritious, lunch and breakfast programs. The legislation will also maximize the access to available federal funds, while providing a way for individuals, communities and businesses to contribute funds which would be used exclusively to purchase food for children.

"The Feed to Achieve Act is an important step forward to ensure that all students have their stomachs filled, so that the teachers can effectively fill their minds," said Senator Unger, “I commend Governor Tomblin for recognizing the importance of this legislation and for signing it into law.”

Governor Tomblin signed the legislation into law at Berkeley Heights Elementary School in Martinsburg.

“Berkeley Heights Elementary School is where I got the inspiration from the students to create the Senate Select Committee on Children and Poverty and then to create the West Virginia Feed to Achieve Act,” said Unger.
