Marcum Sponsors Resolution to Build Bridge

CHARLESTON, W.Va.–The House of Delegates has adopted a piece of legislation Thursday that will request the Department of Highways to build a bridge in Naugatuck near Tug Valley High School.

The bridge would be located on the new County 65/03 Route, allowing traffic from the Tug Valley High School and Naugatuck residents to access the high school more easily.

Delegate Justin Marcum (D-Mingo) is listed as the lead sponsor of the bill.

“The building of this bridge has been a long time coming,” Marcum said, “Not only will this bridge help ease the traffic in the area, but it will help expand and create economic growth in the Tug Valley area.”

House Concurrent Resolution 111 also said further development of the high school can’t continue until the bridge is built.

“Delegate [Harry Keith White] White (D-Mingo) and me have been working with the Department of Highways and the Tug Valley community to get this bridge built and we believe this is a step in the right direction to improve the quality of education for these kids."

The resolution has received much support from both sides of the aisle and across the state, listing 61 co-sponsors including Mingo County Delegates Marcum and White.

The resolution is currently being considered by the Senate Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
