Agriculture and Agri-Business Committee to Tour Moorefield Poultry Facilities

Charleston, WV- Senator Ronald Miller, (D-Greenbrier), Co-Chairman of the West Virginia Legislature’s Agriculture and Agri-Business Interim Committee announced today that the committee will be traveling to Moorefield during September Interim meetings held September 16-18, for a tour of various poultry industry facilities, including the Pilgrim’s Pride operations.

“The committee has been studying the impact of new Department of Agriculture emergency rules related to poultry litter transport and the new EPA concentrated animal feeding operation (CAFO) regulations on the poultry industry,” said Co-Chairman Miller. “The tour will give members the opportunity to see first-hand how these rules and regulations could affect the largest segment of the agriculture industry in the state.”

The tour will also include poultry farms and litter storage facilities in the area.

“The poultry industry is very important to the state and provides not only direct employment opportunities for our citizens, but also employment opportunities at ancillary businesses, such as the poultry litter storage facilities in my home county,” said Co-Chairman Miller.
