West Virginia Senate Recognizes Jefferson County

Charleston, WV - The West Virginia Senate adopted Senate Resolution 33, designating February 20, 2012 Jefferson County Day at the Capitol, along with two additional resolutions concerning Jefferson County.

Senate Resolution 34, sponsored by Senate Majority Leader John Unger II (D-Berkeley), recognized Leadership Jefferson, an eight-month leadership and community training program coordinated by the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce. The 2012 Leadership Jefferson class spent the day at the Capitol meeting various West Virginia lawmakers and state officials, including Secretary of State Natalie Tennant, Supreme Court Justice Robin Jean Davis, and State Superintendent of Schools Jorea Marple.

The Senate also formally honored Shepherdstown’s 250th Anniversary. Senator Unger sponsored Senate Resolution 35, which provided a brief history of the town, including General George Washington’s 1775 call for Virginia Volunteer Riflemen.

Senate Resolution 33 was co-sponsored by Senator Unger and Senator Herb Snyder (D-Jefferson). Jefferson County groups representing diverse interests ranging from agriculture and economic development to arts and cultural heritage were present at the Capitol today.
