Delegates Virginia Mahan & Ricky Moye

Delegates Working to Restart Summers ARH Talks

Delegates Virginia Mahan and Ricky Moye said today they believe their efforts to restart discussion on the Summers Appalachian Regional Hospital Long Term Care Facility have been effective.

“We have spoken with various department heads within DHHR and OFLAC, as well as representatives for ARH, urging them all to consider the impact closure of the Third Floor Long Term Care Unit would have on the entire community. We cannot sustain the loss of this care facility nor the loss of jobs. It would simply be devastating,” Mahan said.

“The people of Summers County asked for and got our help, both prior to and since the announcement that ARH was closing the Third Floor Unit,” Moye added. “There is a team in place ready to make the needed changes and meet the various licensing requirements. We stand ready to help.”

Both delegates have been in talks with Department of Health and Human Resources representatives, Main Street Hinton and ARH over the past several days.

“We have been assured that there is still hope in this matter. We might yet see a reversal of ARH’s position if all parties can agree to a more timely resolution. We have faith that with renewed attention to the matter, there may be a positive outcome resulting in the Third Floor Unit remaining viable.”
