DELEGATE PASDON ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION FROM HOUSE OF DELEGATES

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Delegate Amanda Pasdon, R-Monongalia, today announced her resignation from the House of Delegates, effective Jan. 1, citing personal and family reasons.

“This was a difficult decision for me,” Pasdon said. “I have truly enjoyed the past five years representing my constituents and serving in the House. However, after consulting with my family, I’ve decided I need to take a step back and focus on a personal matter. I will miss my colleagues in the House, but know they will continue to take bold steps to improve our state.”

Pasdon, chairwoman of the House Education Committee, recently informed House Speaker Tim Armstead, R-Kanawha, of her decision.

“Amanda has been a strong, intelligent and energetic member of our caucus who has taken great strides in improving our state’s education system and economy,” Armstead said. “I’m sad to lose her in the House, but understand and fully support her decision. My thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family.”

Armstead said he is far along in the process of identifying a new chairman to lead the House Education Committee. He plans to have a successor in place in sufficient time prior to the start of the legislative session to permit the new chairman to advance a strong education agenda.

"During the 2015 session, Amanda and the Education Committee tackled a number of important issues that have helped to move our state's educational system forward,” Armstead said. “I am confident the new chairman of the Education Committee will build upon the Chairman Pasdon's accomplishments and we will see tremendous progress in educating our students."
