Fiscal Note Summary
Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
The Attorney Generals Office does not handle vehicle accidents unless we are chosen as panel counsel by AIG insurance. Accidents are turned into BRIM who forwards them to AIG as part of the States inurance coverage.
Currently, AIG has 23 open claims against state agencies for vehicle accidents. Since vehicle accidents are presented to BRIM and then turned over to AIG, it would be AIG panel counsel that would defend the state and absorb the travel cost.
