Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):
This bill will create a Domestic Violence (DV) Court in Kanawha County. The Court had a DV Court in place until 2017, when it was dissolved. The costs in this fiscal note are based on actual costs in 2017.
The previous DV Court was operated by a Magistrate, two clerks, one bailiff, and one probation officer. There were also nominal overhead costs of operating the DV Court (office supplies, copier lease, and postage). The fiscal note is based on the same structure that was in place in 2017.
