Fiscal Note Summary
Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
The purpose of the bill is to require the county boards of education and the Supreme Court of Appeals to evenly split the cost of a school-based probation officer. Currently, the Supreme Court of Appeals is not required to pay for any costs of school-based probation officers. The county school system pays for these positions. The county can currently receive a grant from the WVDE to pay for half of the costs for a school-based probation officer. They have to use other funds to pay the second half. There are currently 29 school-based probation officers funded in the state of West Virginia. There is no cost to the WVDE as a result of this legislation. However, the WVDE cannot estimate the costs associated to the WVSCA as a result of this legislation.
