Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
SB 99 would add a magistrate and magistrate assistant in Raleigh County, which is a Tier 2 county.
Currently, magistrates in counties with 8,400 or more in population per magistrate (§50-1-3), or Tier 2 counties, are paid $40,000. Magistrate Assistants in Tier 2 counties are paid $ 25,344.
A one-time expense for office furniture and equipment would be required. Office space is provided by the county and paid for from the magistrate court fund (§50-1-11).
