Fiscal Note Summary

Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.

The purpose of this bill is to establish a new license plate that identifies the vehicle as a city or municipal law enforcement vehicle. The plate will be blue letters on a white background with a badge on the left side of the plate. The words West Virginia and police will be printed on the plate and the subscript PD will be used in the number sequence. The Division of Ciminal Justice estimates that there are approximately 1,200 vehicles used by the 218 city and municipal law enforcement agencies. The Division purchases registration plates from the WV Prison Industries. Prison Industries has stated that the cost for a plate of this type would be about $8.00 a plate. The Division estimates the cost to reissue plates to city and municipal law enforcement agencies to be $15,600. No additional revenues are generated by this bill.
