Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
The purpose of this bill is to establish a four year pilot program to have social workers in public schools, from kindergarten through the eighth grade. The bill requires at least one social worker per county. The bill requires annual and final reports.

Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):
There is no estimated cost to the State for the proposed legislation. The estimated cost of $2,720,565 for the proposed legislation must be borne by the county boards of education as social worker positions are not covered under the Public School Support Program.
Based on the current number of social workers employed by the county boards of education, it is estimated that an additional 41.18 social workers must be hired for all counties to employ at least one social worker. The estimated cost for those additional social workers, including salary, fixed charges, retirement and PEIA premiums, is $2,720,565.
