Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
This bill proposes decreasing the salary of state legislators from $20,000 to $18,000 annually. This would amount to a $2,000 savings for each of the 134 legislators, equaling a total savings of $268,000 per year.

Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):
The West Virginia Constitution stipulates in Article 6-38 that the salary of any public officer may not be increased or diminished during his or her term of office. If this change does not take effect until the end of legislators' current terms, then the salaries of 17 senators would not be affected until 2017. The salaries of the remaining 117 would be decreased beginning in 2015.
