The purpose of this bill is to provide an additional salary bonus for classroom teachers with national board certification who teach and mentor at priority and focus schools, define focus and priority schools, specify the method of payment, and specify eligibility.

Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):
The estimated cost to the State under the Public School Support Program for the additional NBPTS bonus is $253,313. This includes the increase in salaries (Step 1), fixed charges (Step 3), current expense/substitutes (Step 6), and retirement. The cost estimate was calculated by determining the number of NBPTS teachers currently teaching at the schools projected to be the priority and focus schools for the 2013-14 school year (93 teachers).
