Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):

The estimated cost to the State under the Public School Support Program for the additional NBPTS bonus is $493,008. This includes the increase in salaries (Step 1), fixed charges (Step 3), current expense/substitutes (Step 6), and retirement. The cost estimate assumes an average number of NBPTS teachers at the projected number of target and priority schools. The cost estimate also assumes that all of the NBPTS teachers perform mentoring duties currently. Because this bill prohibits the NBPTS teachers who receive this new NBPTS salary bonus from receiving any additional extra duty or other pay for mentoring assignments, this would result in some cost savings to the county boards of education. There is insufficient data to estimate the savings to the county boards of education.
