Fiscal Note Summary

Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.

The change in legislation would require justices, judges and magistrates to run in non-partisan election. There would only be an effect on filing fees revenue if the number of candidates running in non-partisan elections increase or decrease from the current system of partisan elections. If there is a 10% increase in candidates running the increase revenue would be $2,635, a 20% increase in candidates would cause a revenue increase of $5,270, a 30% increase in candidates would cause a revenue increase of $7,905 and so on. If the change to non-partisan election causes a decrease in the number of candidates running for the office then the fund would have a revenue loss in the same amounts as the increases. There will little or no increase in cost due to the change from partisan to non-partisan election.
