Fiscal Note Summary
Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
The purpose of this bill is to reduce the student-school nurse ratio from 1,500:1 in grades kindergarten through seven to 750:1 and to expand that ratio to all grade levels for the 2013-14 year. The bill also removes the current provision that county boards may contract with a public health department to provide such services, requiring that school nurses be employed to meet the medical needs of students.

Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):
There would be no cost to the State under this proposal since the allowances under Step 5 of the Public School Support Program are not being increased to provide funding to employ the additional school nurses.
As a result, the cost of this proposal, estimated at $7,111,096 for an additional 109.25 school nurses statewide for the 2013-14 year, must be borne by the various county boards of education.
