Fiscal Note Summary
Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
This bill provides that all magistrates, magistrate assistants, magistrate court clerks and deputy clerks be paid equally. This bill will eliminate the two-tier system. The 2010 census noted a decrease in population for Lewis, McDowell, Wetzel and Wyoming Counties. Since the Legislature did not act on similar legislation during the 2012 Regular Session, the salaries of magistrate court personnel in those four counties drastically reduced on January 1, 2013, pursuant to the provisions of the West Virginia Code.
