The purpose of this legislation is to require a jobs impact statement be completed by the Development Office on certain proposed legislation which may cause an impact on the State's economy. These impact statements may be requested by the Governor or the leader of either House of the Legislature.

Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):
The above cost estimate is based on the costs of adding two additional staff for our Research Unit to prepare these impact statements. The other costs are for research materials to support this staff as well as to employ outside attorneys and other consultants necessary to properly complete these statements.
Memorandum
It is difficult to put an estimated cost on this legislation because we don't know how many bills a year would require an impact statement.
