Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
The stated purpose of this bill is to dedicate a portion of the receipts from the tax on food products to be distributed equally to each district of the Division of Highways for the maintenance of secondary roads.
As written, the passage of this bill would result in a transfer of about $26 million per year from the General Revenue Fund to the Division of Highways.
There would be no additional administrative costs to the State Tax Department from the passage of this bill if the transfer from the General Revenue Fund occurs one month in arrears to allow for proper accounting of funds collected.
