Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
HB 2681, if approved, would waive tuition and fees for courses attended by State Police Officers at publically funded West Virginia State Colleges and Universities. It is estimated that the annual cost for the waivers would be approximately $25,000. The waiver does not include books, parking, and other special lab fees which may occur.

Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):
According to 2010 data provided by the West Virginia State Police, there are approximately 550 officers in the field. The average resident undergraduate tuition and fees for a three hour four-year undergraduate course is $629. Due to time constraints and job demands, it is estimated that only 20 field officers would take advantage of the proposed fee waiver. If these officers attended one course in the both the fall and spring semesters, the waived tuition and fee revenue for one academic year would be approximately $25,000.
