Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):
The purpose of this bill is to provide a statutory framework through which the Legislature may appropriate funds to match the amount of federal funds used to supplement the provision of scientifically researched-based alternative language education programs for limit English proficient (LEP) students in accordance with policies and procedures adopted by the State Board.
Based on the suggested level of appropriation ($274/student) and the number of LEP students for the 2007-08 year (2,336) the estimated cost of this proposal is $274 x 2,336 = $640,064.
