The legislation would eliminate the requirement that the DOH install signs denoting the type of enforcement equipment used by police. The cost per year is estimated at $180,000. The legal cost should a driver legally challenge the method used to determine speed is unknown.

Memorandum


The purppose of this bill is to remove the small signs that say "RADAR ENFORCED" which are located below the speed limit signs. The DOH met with the State Police and they indicated that the signage was not needed and could create a problem as enforcement officers use other methods to clock mph if challenged in court.
