Fiscal Note Summary

Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.

The state purpose of this bill is to create a pilot system for public funding of 2012 election campaigns for candidates for the State Supreme Court who agree to and do abide by restrictions on campaign contributions from private sources and limits on campaign spending. According to our interpretation, passage of this bill would result in the creation of a voluntary check-off line on personal income tax returns for taxpayers who wish to contribute to the “2012 Supreme Court of Appeals Public Campaign Financing Fund ”. The new check-off may result in the voluntary contribution of a modest amount of funds for this fund. Passage of this bill would result in no additional administrative costs to the State Tax Department.
