Fiscal Note Summary
Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
This bill increases the amount of compensation paid to witnesses when he or she attends court proceedings. Currently, a witnesses receives $5.00 per day and ten cents per mile for attendance in court. With such minimal compensation, often witnesses choose to ignore subpoenas because he or she simply cannot afford to attend. This bill would increase the amount witnesses receive to $40.00 per day and the same compensation per mile as a judicial employee is entitled to. This is equal to compensation paid to jurors.
