Fiscal Note Summary
Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
In determining the fiscal note for this bill, it is assumed that the school safety mapping for most public schools will need substantial recreation and verification to bring it up to a minimum level of quality and standardization.
The proposed bill's fiscal impact will be calculated using a cost-per-square-foot method. The estimated cost includes time for gathering information at the school and processing the data into its final form, which would then be distributed to the specified end users. The estimated cost does not include data storage or access management but only creating the school safety mapping plans.
The educational space of public schools in the state is currently reported at about 13,500,000 square feet. Some common school sizes were estimated for their time to process, and those estimates were projected to the total state square footage and industry-standard hourly pay rates for the individuals who would perform this work.
The rate for the 13,500,000 square feet of education space is estimated at $0.35 per square foot, for a total estimated cost of $4,725,000.
This fiscal note only includes the initial costs for mapping and does not include any incidental costs associated with hosting and/or maintaining the mapping system.
