Fiscal Note Summary

Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.

This legislation, in its current form, extends Laken's Law to include students in grades 3-5 be instructed on fentanyl, heroin, and opioid awareness. This legislation is likely intended to utilize a free resource but is written in a manner that would not allow for such usage because it would not meet the requirements of the proposed legislation. The current language would require the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) to produce a video that meets the requirements. The WVDE can assist with drafting language that would eliminate any associated costs.
