This legislation, in its current form, allows county boards of education to contract for participation in the West Virginia Guardian Program to assist with school safety issues.
This legislation is permissive; therefore, it does not have any fiscal impact on the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) or the West Virginia Board of Education (WVBE).
For informational purposes, the latest School Safety Survey from the county boards of education indicated that a total of 329 FTE's are needed for school safety. The average estimated cost of a SR0/PRO is $92,000 annually.
