There would definitely be a fiscal impact to the WVDCR.

Our agency does not track employees who are enrolled or plan to enroll in higher education.
g) Amount of reimbursement. – The reimbursement amount shall be 20 percent of the total cost of the undergraduate study per year, to be paid in full at 100 percent after five years of work with the Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
A check with 5 universities in West Virginia (WVU, Marshall, Fairmont, West Liberty and Bluefield) have an average tuition cost of $9126.80 per year. The Bill calls for a 20% payment the first qualified year reimbursement which is $1825.36 per student employee reimbursement each year. Total cost after (5) years employed with the agency and a full undergraduate tuition paid 100% is $36,507.20 for a (4) year undergraduate degree. The qualified student would have to meet all the requirements set forth by the university.
