Fiscal Note Summary
Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
The Division of Corrections currently houses approximately 300 work release inmates. The estimated monthly cost for this drug is $1,300 per 30 day supply. If 75% of the work release inmates have addiction issues (assumption based on past research and experience), the total monthly cost would be $292,500 (annual cost $3,510,000). It is possible that Medicaid or other providers may help offset this cost, but that is uncertain at this time. In addition, the research evaluation called for by the proposal could have cost impacts of $200,000 to $300,000 dollars depending on final scope and expertise needed. The numbers provided above are for treating work release inmates every month. Most states just provide one injection prior to release, and refer to community provider. As stated, the cost for each injection, which lasts one month is $1300. Medicaid may be an option, however we don't know for certain what, if anything, they would pay
