Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
The purpose of this bill is to specify the allocation of the costs for school-based probation officers in counties which have established a truancy program in a judicial circuit where a grant is provided by the county Board of Education to the Supreme Court of Appeals to hire a school-based juvenile probation officer to handle truancy matters.

Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):
This bill requires the Supreme Court of Appeals to pay half the costs of school-based probation officers in certain circuits. Currently, there are 9 school-based probation officers serving the following countes:
Boone County
Cabell County
Greenbrier County
Logan County
Mercer County
Monongalia County
Putnam County
Raleigh County
Wayne County
The total cost of a school-based probation officer is $63,209.00 annually. Therefore, the enactment of this legislation would require the Supreme Court of Appeals to pay $31,604.50 per year per officer totally $284,440.
