Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):


Increasing the compulsory attendance age to 18 will increase student enrollment, which will increase state aid funding, but the requirement will also reduce the number of students that drop out of school. This will certainly reduce the lifetime related costs the State incurs as a result of high school dropouts, such as higher welfare, Medicaid and other health costs, and judicial costs. However, since a prediction cannot be made as to what effect this bill will have on the actual number of dropouts, an estimated cost cannot be determined.
