Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
| HB 2162 would equalize all magistrates salaries at $40,000 rather than by tier.
This would provide for an increase for current Tier 1 magistrates of $6,375. Current Tier 2 magistrates would not be increased. Currently, magistrates in counties with 8,400 or more in population per magistrate (ยง50-1-3), or Tier 2 counties, are paid $40,000. Magistrates in Tier 1 counties, serving less than 8,400 in population per magistrate, earn $33,625. While the Bill does not specify when this would be effective, it is assumed that July 1, 2005 would be the effective date. There are 42 magistrates in Level 1 counties. |
