Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
| The counties in the State are divided into two (2) groups for purposes of setting salaries in the magistrate court system. See W.Va. Code §50-1-3.
Tier 1 consists of those counties where magistrates serve less than 8,400 in population. Tier 2 consists of those counties where magistrates serve 8,400 or more in population. Magistrate court clerks salaries are established by W.Va. Code §50-1-8. Tier 1 clerks are currently paid $25,536 annually and Tier 2 clerks are paid $30,444 annually. Because the Bill does not specify a per diem rate and because there are no records in the possession of the Administrative Office which details the number of work days for which a senior clerk might be needed, it is not possible to determine the cost of this Bill. |
