The purpose of this bill is to allow classified workers who are physically unable to perform their job duties on temporary or permanent basis to work in another classification at the discretion of the county board of education and continue to receive the compensation of the previous employment position for up to one calendar year.

Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):
Allowing an injured employee who is physically unable to perform his/her job duties to return to work and perform duties in another classification would allow such employees to return to work and quit drawing workers' compensation insurance quicker, thus reducing workers' compensation insurance costs, which in effect would reduce workers' compensation premium rates for county boards. However, the WVDE does not have sufficient data to be able to calculate the amount of cost savings that the State would derive from this proposal.
