Fiscal Note Summary

Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.

The purpose of this bill is to provide a discounted motor vehicle registration fee to members of volunteer fire departments. Members would receive two years motor vehicle registration upon payment of a one-year registration fee. According to sources in the State Fire Marshall’s Office, there are 9,365 volunteer firefighters and 841 part-time, paid firefighters in the state of West Virginia. Vehicle registrations are $30 per year annually. Current registration fee collection for this group is $306,180. This would be cut in half by going to a two-year registration for a one year fee.
