Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
House Bill 2228 if enacted, would create a Merit Screening Adivsory Committtee to support the selection of public higher education institution's board of governors members. The fiscal impact would be about $11,404 for costs related to committee activities. It is estimated that mileage, meals and lodging would cost $3,384, $5,760 and $1,260 respectively. In addition, about $1,000 would be required for clerical support.

Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):
The nine members of the committee would be required to meet at least once during each quarter. This would result in 36 trips at an estimated round trip distance of 200 miles. The current mileage rate is 47 cents per mile. The total mileage costs would be $3,384. Lodging for 36 nights at $160 is estimated to be $5,760. The estimate for meals is $1,260 at $35 per day. The committee members would serve without compensation.
