The purpose of this bill is to provide a $12,000 death benefit to the surviving spouse, designated beneficiary, children, or parents of teachers and other school personnel killed by an act of violence while in the performance of their duties at a primary or secondary education school.

Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):
Because an act of violence resulting in the death of an employee is projected to be a rare occurrence, there is no estimated annual cost for the proposed legislation. However, in today's society, such an act of violence is not out of the realm of possibility. In the tragic event that such an act of violence does occur, the cost to the state would be $12,000 per school personnel killed while in performance of their duties.
