Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
| House Bill 2148, if enacted would require that handicap restroom facilities and stalls in all colleges and universities be
installed with automatic doors to accommodate persons in wheelchairs and other persons who need assistance. The estimated cost per door would be approximately $5,000. An annual cost cannot be determined because the number of restrooms and stalls constructed each year cannot be predicted. Because capital project funding is typically associated with individual projects rather than continuing allocations, the cost of the automatic doors would be absorbed within the construction budget for each building. This absorption would reduce the funds available for other spaces, especially for classrooms and labs, within a building. |
