Fiscal Note Summary

Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.

The purpose of this bill is to require accident and sickness insurance providers and health maintenance organizations to cover certain Lyme disease treatments. The WV Public Employees Insurance Agency currently covers Lyme disease treatment with the exception of unproven or experimental in nature. This legislation is amending the Insurance Commission code relating to private accident and sickness, group accident and sickness and health maintenance organizations. It is not unusual but standard for all of these policies to exclude or deny treatment of unproven or experimental in nature claims. At this time the Public Employees Insurance Agency has no clinical, financial, or other informational means to estimate what the potential cost of this legislation would be.
