Fiscal Note Summary
Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
The purpose of this bill is to prohibit state funding of abortions.
This bill prohibits the use of moneys received or controlled by or transferred from any state fund or funding source for the expense of an abortion or expense for health benefits coverage that includes coverage of abortions.
The Department currently funds abortions through the Medicaid program with 100% state dollars and estimates this bill would reduce expenditures by $319,485 based on services provided during the State Fiscal Year 2007.

The above reflects an estimate of the savings in state dollars by not covering abortions. This estimate is based on the services provided during the State Fiscal Year 2007. It does not provide an estimate of any anticipative cost increases of choosing to have the baby as an alternative to the abortion.
