Fiscal Note Summary
Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
The fiscal impact would be insignificant. The intent is to cancel up to $10,000 of outstanding loan or loans for every twelve consecutive calender months to health professionsals that have rendered services as a medical doctor of osteopathy in this state in a medically underserved area or in a medical speciality in which there is a shortage of physicians. Current law is $5,000 that can be canceled and the increase of $5,000 would match the maxium annual amount of $10,000 that can be loaned. This legislation will correct an inequity in the law by matching annual loan forgiveness to annual loan award amounts.
