Fiscal Note Summary

Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.

"The purpose of this bill is to provide that inspections of primary and secondary schools by local boards of health may be reported to the principal of the school, the county superintendent and the president of the county school board, or to persons of like responsibility in the case of a private, parochial, church or other school operated by a religious order. The bill also authorizes the Commissioner of the Bureau for Public Health to promulgate and establish standards for these inspections." This legislation would have no fiscal impact on the Department due to the current General Sanitation Rule (64 CSR 18) and the Food Service Establishment Rule (64 CSR 17) which contain sanitation requirements and inspection frequency for public and private schools.

Memorandum

Currently, the General Sanitation Rule (64 CSR 18) and the Food Service Establishment Rule (64 CSR 17) contain sanitation requirements and inspection frequency for public and private schools. The rules require that the inspection findings be discussed with the "person in charge" at the time of the inspection. By policy, the Bureau for Public Health could require inspection findings be forwarded to the individuals specified in this proposed legislation.
