Fiscal Note Summary
Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
Senate Bill 16, if approved, would authorize each higher education governing board to increase fees for students attending more than full-time as the term is redefined in this bill.
This bill defines full-time status for undergraduate students who take at least 12, but no more than 16 credit hours per term. Currently, full-time undergraduate students enrolled in more than 16 credit hours pay only the full-time rate. This bill would allow each institutional governing board to authorize the assessment for additional undergraduate student fees on a pro-rated basis for credit hours in excess of 16 credit hours.
This bill further defines full-time status for graduate students who take at least 9 credit hours. Currently, full-time graduate students enrolled in more than 9 credit hours pay only the full-time rate. This bill would allow each institutional governing board to authorize the assessment for additional graduate student fees on a pro-rated basis for credit hours in excess of 9 credit hours.
