Fiscal Note Summary
Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
The purpose of this bill is to eastblish a new license plate that identifies the vehicle as a city or municipal law enforcement vehicle.
The plate will be blue letters on a white background with a badge on the left side of the plate. The words West Virginia and police will be printed on the plate and the subscript PD will be used in the number sequence.
The Division of Criminal Justice estimates that there are approximately 1,200 vehicles used by the 218 city and municipal law enforcement agencies.
The Division purchases registration plates from the WV Prison Industries. Prison Industries has stated that the cost for a plate of this type would be about $8.00 a plate.
The Division estimates the cost to reiisue plates to city and municipal law enforcement agencies to be $15,600.
City and municipal law enforcement agencies are to notify the Division of Motor Vehicles by July 1, 2005, of the number of plates they will need and to submit a check for $10.00 for each plate.
The Division estimates that $12,000 in revenue will be collected.
