SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 18
(By Senators Kessler, Bowman, McKenzie, Macnaughtan,
Ross, Kimble, Buckalew, Ball and Sharpe)
Requesting the Division of Highways to name the bridge crossing
the Ohio River between Wheeling, West Virginia, and
Bridgeport, Ohio, the "Military Order of the Purple Heart
Bridge".
Whereas, Throughout the years, West Virginia residents have
consistently answered the call to arms and served the armed
forces of the United States; and
Whereas, The "Purple Heart" is awarded to any member of the
armed forces who is wounded or killed while in service to their
country as a result of an act of an enemy of the United States;
and
Whereas, There are more than 10,000 individuals in West
Virginia, more than 10,000 individuals in Ohio and more than
500,000 living recipients nationwide who have been awarded the
"Purple Heart" for wounds received in defense of our country; and
Whereas, To memorialize these individuals who were killed or
suffered wounds in defense of our country and of our state and to
recognize their sacrifice, it is befitting to name the bridge which crosses the Ohio River and connects Wheeling, West
Virginia, with Bridgeport, Ohio, the "Military Order of the
Purple Heart Bridge" in their honor; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name
the bridge crossingthat crosses the Ohio River betweenand connects Wheeling, West
Virginia, andwith Bridgeport, Ohio, be and the same is hereby named
the "Military Order of the Purple
Heart Bridge"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby
directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Governor, and
the Secretary of the Department of Transportation andt the
Commissioner of the Divsision of Highways andis and the
Secretary of the Department of Transportation.
