SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 31

Requesting the Joint Committee on Government and Finance study the
best possible uses of areas mined using the mountaintop
removal method of mining.
Whereas, There have been many acres of land throughout West
Virginia mined using the mountaintop removal method of mining; and
Whereas, Careful thought should be given to the best possible
use of these areas, including the type of buildings that can be
built on these areas and the type of vegetation that can be grown
on these areas that will have the biggest economic impact;
therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance is hereby
requested to study the best possible uses of areas mined using the
mountaintop removal method of mining; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Joint Committee on Government and
Finance report to the regular session of the Legislature, 2010, on
its findings, conclusions and recommendations, together with drafts
of any legislation necessary to effectuate its recommendations;
and, be it
Further Resolved, That the expenses necessary to conduct this
study, to prepare a report and to draft necessary legislation be paid from legislative appropriations to the Joint Committee on
Government and Finance.
